The California 32 is a magnificent classic wooden sloop sailboat, measuring 14 meters in length and 3.30 meters in width. It was built in May 1937 by Fellows and Stewart, based on the plans of naval architect Nicholas Potter, also known as the "Herreshoff of the West." The boat is equipped with a 37 kW Perkins engine.
The California 32 is renowned for being a formidable racer and a comfortable cruiser, designed for recreational sailing on the Pacific coast. Eight of these sloops were built between the 1930s and the 1960s, and they have often been featured in the nautical press of the West Coast of the United States.
The main features of this sailboat are its overall elegance, the finesse of its lines, and the authenticity and excellence of its original construction. The maneuvering performance during regattas is also remarkable, as evidenced by the successive victories of seven out of eight California 32s at the prestigious "Sir Thomas Lipton Cup" regattas organized by the Yacht Club of San Diego from 1948 to 1964.
The California 32 has a salon with two straight-facing benches, a central drop-leaf varnished wood table, storage furniture, a galley equipped with a stove, refrigerator, and sink, as well as cabinets. There are also toilet compartments with a pump toilet and a sink.
Apart from periodic renewal and compliance interventions, the boat remains in its original configuration, making it even more authentic and unique. In summary, the California 32 is a legendary sailboat that combines aesthetics and high-level performance.
